Feel Comfortable and Confident With Oral Sedation

If you’re afraid of going to the dentist for a root canal, you’re not alone. It has been estimated that 9% to 15% of Americans avoid seeing the dentist because of anxiety and fear. Delaying root canal treatment can lead to pain, infection and potential extraction of your tooth. However, there’s a way of overcoming the fears that may have kept you from visiting your dentist for necessary root canal treatment using modern techniques of sedation dentistry. Dr. Andrew Stubbs can ease your anxiety and even make the entire experience pain-free. By administering oral sedation with a combination of anxiety-relieving and pain-blocking drugs, you may begin to forget about the root canal treatment soon after it’s over.

Oral sedation is one of the most popular methods for delivering sedatives, without the need to insert a needle into your arm. Oral sedation gives us a choice of medications that can be used in various situations.

Advantages of Oral Sedation:

  • Ease of administration.  Simply swallow a small pill.
  • More profound sedation than nitrous oxide.
  • Safe and simple monitoring during the root canal.
  • Works well for most patients.
  • Significantly less expensive than IV sedation.

Disadvantages of Oral Sedation:

  • Level of sedation is not easily changed.
  • Transportation is required to and from the dental office.
  • Although oral sedation works well for most people, some patients require IV sedation to achieve their desired results.

You can learn more about how oral sedation can help restore your smile with a Free Sedation Consult. At your consultation, we’ll likely suggest several options that can give you the results you want, as well as discuss the pros and cons of each. In the end, it’s all about making you feel comfortable and confident.

Find an In-Network Dentist who Accepts MetLife Dental Insurance To Complete Your Root Canal

Are you looking for a dentist who takes MetLife Dental Insurance to complete your next root canal? It is important to ask the right questions before selecting who is going to complete your procedure. There are two different terms used in dental insurance industry that can make a big difference in how much you pay for dental services. Knowing the difference between these two terms can save you hundreds of dollars for the same root canal procedure.
Patients often ask “Do you accept my insurance?”, when they should be asking “Are you In-Network with my insurance?”. In-network dentists have agreed to accept a previously negotiated fee with the insurance company. Then, the patients will pay their percentage as agreed by their plan. The remaining balance is written off by the dentist.
If you choose a dentist who simply accepts payment by your MetLife Dental Insurance, the remaining balance becomes YOUR RESPONSIBILITY. This simple difference can add hundreds of dollars to your out-of-pocket costs.
Creekside Endodontics is excited to be an In-Network provider with MetLife Dental Insurance. We will complete your treatment and submit the necessary paperwork to MetLife. By using an In-Network dentist, you can save hundreds of dollars on your treatment.

4 Benefits of Using an In-Network Assurant Dental Insurance Dentist

Creekside Endodontics is proud to be an In-network provider for Assurant Dental Insurance.  Here are 4 good reasons to visit  Assurant dentist:

1) Pay less at your visit. Assurant pays your dentist directly after treatment and you only pay the dentist only your portion of the services.  Assurant will send you a notice explaining your portion of the bill.

2) Save money. In-network dentists agree to never bill you for more than the previously negotiated contracted fee. For example, if you are a PPO enrollee responsible for a 20% coinsurance amount, you pay 20% of your dentist’s contracted fee. Non-Assurant dentists can charge you their full fee for their services.

3) No unnecessary procedures. Assurant ensures you’re never charged for services that should be included in the cost of treatment. For example, when you receive a root canal, an Assurant dentist won’t charge you extra for local anesthesia, procedural radiographs or same-day exams with treatment.

4) Quality. Assurant dentists are licensed and meet accepted standards during network contracting.  Assurant dentists are also assigned a special representative to help them stay updated on your insurance needs.

Call 303-524-9343 to schedule your appointment today.  We will be happy to explain your Assurant benefits.

Overcoming Dental Fears with Dental Oral Sedation

If you’re afraid of going to the dentist, you’re not alone. Did you know there’s a way of overcoming the fears that may have kept you from visiting your dentist for necessary treatment? With the techniques of modern dental sedation, Dr. Stubbs can ease your apprehension, and even make the entire experience pain-free. You no longer need to avoid that root canal that is necessary to restore you to dental health.

Dr. Stubbs is licensed to administer a combination of anxiety-relieving (anxiolytic) and pain-blocking (anesthetic) drugs, some of which even have an amnesic effect and may cause you to forget about the treatment.

If you have avoided IV sedation because of fear of needles, there’s good news: Dr. Stubbs offers two types of sedation that does not require needles to induce the effect. After the effects of sedation set in, standard anesthesia delivery is still necessary, but is much more manageable

Inhalation conscious sedation, delivery of nitrous oxide through a mask that fits over the nose , is the most popular method that’s needle-free. It provides a mild sense of euphoria during treatment, with no “hangover” effect afterward.

Oral conscious sedation, the second most popular method for delivering sedatives, gives us a choice of medications that can be used in various situations. An oral sedative can be delivered before arriving for the appointment, to make you more comfortable.

IV sedation is another popular method to alleviate dental fears. With intravenous conscious sedation, medication is delivered directly into the blood stream for an immediate and highly controllable effect. Dr. Stubbs incorporates nurse anesthetists into his dental team. The nurse anesthetist will monitor your vital and sedation levels, allowing Dr. Stubbs to provide the best in endodontic care. This team approach provides a safer, more complete sedation dental experience.

Before using any type of sedation, Dr. Stubbs will ask you for a complete health history and monitor you closely during and after the procedure.

What Happens During a Root Canal?

Root canal treatment involves one to three visits. During treatment, your general dentist or endodontist (a dentist who specializes in problems with the nerves of the teeth) removes the affected tissue. Next, the tissue will be removed and the interior of the tooth will be cleaned and sealed. Finally, the tooth is filled with a dental composite. If your tooth had extensive decay, your doctor may suggest placing a crown to strengthen and protect the tooth from breakage. As long as you continue to care for your teeth and gums with regular brushing, flossing, and checkups, your restored tooth can last a lifetime.

What is the Purpose of a Root Canal?

Root canal treatment removes infected material from the nerve of your tooth.  The main function of a tooth’s nerve (pulp tissue) is to guide its growth during childhood.  After the tooth has erupted through the gums, the nerve is not vitally important to a tooth’s health and function.  The presence or absence of a nerve will not affect the daily function of the tooth, since its only function is sensory – the sensation of hot, cold or pain.

If your tooth is cracked or has a deep cavity, bacteria can enter the pulp tissue and can cause an infection inside the tooth. If left untreated, an abscess may form causing pain or swelling.  Not only can a tooth abscess injure your jawbones, but it is detrimental to your overall health. Poor oral health can affect people with diabetes, heart disease, osteoporosis, rheumatoid arthritis or who are pregnant. Without the proper treatment, your tooth may have to be removed.
